Father-In-Law Day/Cheesecake Day
2003-07-30 @ 6:19 p.m.

Today's entry may well be the longest yet, so brace yourself before reading on. In it you will find a chronicle of the extraordinary events of this afternoon, followed by a criticism which may turn quite unpleasant. It will doubtless be enlightening, for it calls into question the character of a certain person who will be named in due course. Will I be going against any moral or ethical code by posting this entry? Frankly, after what has happened, I think doing this is only fair to everyone. There can never be anything to be said against the truth, something which I'm confident all sensible people will agree with. If this entry seems spiteful at times, or too venomous, I didn't mean it to be, honestly.

I was about to leave school this afternoon, when I was accosted by a choir member and informed that polling for the new committee was due to take place today, because the deadline for submitting the names was this afternoon. I called Shen Ting, and we went to see what this whole business was about. To our amazement, the list of names for polling was already prepared by, as we later found out, by Shane. Needless to say, this was grossly unfair to all the Secondary 3s, because interviews aren't over yet! I called up a few other members of the committee, and learnt that they had no idea this was happening, which made us suspect that it was all part of a cunning plan to settle the issue of AGM, without calling for a committee meeting. John was told by Shane that it was none of his business, when he called Shane up to question him. If that doesn't sound suspicious, I don't know what will.

Since there was really nothing that could be done until after polling was over, Shen Ting and I waited. We tabulated the results, which I'm not divulging to anyone, and went to speak with Ms Chiang. Ms Chiang had told Shen Ting that Shane had passed her the list, telling her that the committee had come up with it. I don't know if this was what Shane actually said, but I will discuss this in a few moments. Ms Chiang offered her views on how people should be chosen for committee posts. Basically, she said that it depends on their overall attitude and performance in choir, not just on the interviews alone. This begs the question, how did certain key figures get their positions? More on that will follow in due course. She also said that we need to see if people want to take up the post. That is ridiculous, as the current treasurer, let me assure you that nobody asked for my opinion. The conclusion of the whole fiasco is that a lot of the Sec 4s are going to be quite unhappy, and Shane is going to have a lot of answering to do once Common Test 2 is over.

Now we move on to the analysis of what this whole incident reveals. It is inevitable that we will question why Shane acted in the manner which he purportedly did, by going to Ms Chiang without discussing things with the rest of the committee. Only Shane knows, and whatever his reasons, if he can live with them, I have nothing more to say. Nonetheless, Shane will certainly lose his credibility with at least some of the committee members, unless he has come up with a brilliant explanation for the whole fiasco, during his hours of SSS.

It is not possible to change what has happened. The only thing that we can do is accept it and move on. Everything happens for a reason, so I believe. There were more things which I'd have liked to put down in this entry, but I deemed them too insensitive and uncalled for at this point in time. After all, two wrongs don't make a right...
