Lollipop Day/Rhododendron Fest (North Carolina)/Fortune Cookie Day/Chess Day
2003-07-20 @ 6:35 p.m.

I attended the 11 am service at the church opposite my house today, because my dad had to fly off in the afternoon, and it's really a hassle to travel to Queenstown and back without a car! The worship was good, the musicians are damn good, though the drums tend to overpower the worship leader's voice. The pastor, on the other hand, wasn't that interesting. He spoke for 100 min, and I was like, what the hell! Granted, he's a forceful speaker, with a very loud voice, but his sermon today was very repetitive, and if you ask me, his treatment of the subject was a little unorthodox. Basically, he was saying that if we sow our best seed in everything, metaphorically speaking, we'll reap a good harvest. Correct me, anyone who is theologically trained, but doesn't that kind of statement sound like what we as Christians want to hear, not necessarily what is true? Anyway, the people there are very friendly, they were like all shaking hands and stuff with me just because I was there for the first time! The pastor was even going to talk to all newcomers after the service, but they were having a meeting right after it, so he didn't. The church is rather well-to-do, as it paid for the new church building in cash, without borrowing from banks. In case you were wondering, the building cost a whopping $4.6 million! All in all, it was nice to sit in on a different church's service, but I find large crowds of people rather disagreeable. I'd much rather stick with a church that has a smaller congregation, it just feels closer somehow, to me at least.
