Sugar Cookie Day/Martyrdom Of The Bab/Rock 'N' Roll Day
2003-07-09 @ 9:47 p.m.

Zheng Yang's forming a band with Shane and Darryl. An interesting enterprise, it ought to be really interesting watching them play. Anyway, I think Amethystium rocks! I love Hymnody, not just the song, but the title itself sounds so cool. It's a phase, and it'll probably pass soon enough. For now though, I'm addicted to it. I want to make that kind of music, you know, sort of a cross between New Age and electronica. Unfortunately, nobody's about to give me a synthesiser for free, and I've got no money to buy one! In the future perhaps? Till then, I'll just have to make do listening to what other musical geniuses create...

Since I'm kind of free today, and it is rather early, I thought I'd share a little bit about the music that I'm into and why I like it. Firstly, there's pop. Think A*Teens, Blue, M2M, S Club, Savage Garden, The Corrs, etc. I like it mainly because it's radio-friendly, the kind of music you can listen anytime, anywhere. Who cares if the lyrics are damn sappy? As long as it keeps me happy, it's worth listening to. Secondly, there's New Age. I used to listen only to Enya, whom my sister hates passionately, but now I also listen to Paul Spaeth's piano music. The reason for my liking New Age is really simple, it's calm and soothing, the kind of music that puts me to sleep. I'd consider Amethystium as a further extension of the genre, because the music is more electronica-influenced. Thirdly, there's symphonic electronica. My personal favourite is Oracle... by Paul Spaeth. I strongly recommend it, if my sister likes something I like, chances are it's good. Another fantastic group to check out is Galbatron. Their music is amazing! Aldebaran and its sequel Anthem are two of my favourites. Fourthly, there's classical pop. bond was the first classical pop act to burst into the limelight, but I think The Planets are good too, not so much influenced by techno as bond are, a more organic sound overall. Lastly, there's ambient electronica. I might be wrong, but I think Delerium would fit in here. So would Isotropy, this guy from mp3.com. I like electronica for its beats, and the occasional techno beat is quite nice, although Teck Tee will beg to differ.

Essentially, the type of music I listen to isn't what you normally hear on the radio, especially the songs I get from mp3.com, like those by Bassic, check out Tranquility Bass and its sequels. From time to time, Christian music with pop or rock influences is fine, but I don't really know many groups that play that sort of music other than Jars of Clay. Sometimes I tune in to 96.3 FM, the international channel in Singapore. The music there is unusual, but still very nice in my opinion. Well, my musical tastes have evolved very much since the days when I listened only to classical. I still like Pachelbel's Canon in D though, that's something that'll never change.
