Clean Up Your Room/Astronomy Day/Blood Pressure/Golfers Day
2003-05-10 @ 3:26 p.m.

The test wasn't so bad. I'll probably fail Paper 1, but Paper 2 was quite fine, in the passing sense of course. I actually wanted to go and watch X-2 after the paper, either with Teck Tee, who couldn't because he was broke, or Hanrong, but my dad said I couldn't because we were going out later. Well, it turns out he lied! He even had the nerve to tell me, "Go and watch," when I complained just now. What irks me isn't the fact that now I'm stuck at home being bored, but the fact that he lied just to get me home. I mean, if he wanted me to come back, even if it was no good reason, he could just tell me right? Then we could work out some arrangement. Now I'm plotting how to get back in my own subtle way. Anyone want to go out on Vesak Day?

I've been reflecting on the large number of books I'm reading, by which I mean at the same time. There's a Hannibal Lecter omnibus, that book on food, Lady Chatterly's Lover, a collection of Sherlock Holmes short stories, and a lot more. Add to that the three books I just borrowed earlier from the library, and I begin to wonder where I'll find the time to read everything. Mind you, I'm not complaining. I like reading, I find it a lot more interesting than studying. The difference between reading and studying, is the purpose. When you read, you're doing it for fun, for relaxation, or for the sake of learning something new. When you study, you're doing it for tests and examinations, or for the sake of trying to remember something which will almost certainly be irrelevant to you in the not-so-distant future. So if you ask me, read to gain knowledge, simply because it's there.
