Another day of no homework! Today's French lesson was awfully amusing, literally. We spent half an hour trying to figure out what "Merci pour moi" meant in a dialogue. Then our teacher told us the speaker was being sarcastic. Everyone understood, of course, but the translation "Thank you for me" simply doesn't make sense to speakers of English. It isn't even grammatical! I read an article today in the papers about how the US military looked on as looters wrecked Iraqi museums, even though the US supposedly promised to protect Iraq's museums. Interestingly enough, the US protected the oil wells. Was this a war to liberate Iraq, or just to free its oil to the world? Sometimes you just can't help but wonder! So my new poem, For Iraq, is just an experimental poem. Don't bother to criticise its quality. I'm freely admitting there isn't any to be found in this one. Electrolysis and a cloud have also become the inspirations for a second new poem. How productive I am tonight... |
